Leather Furniture Care: Do's and Don'ts

Leather is durable but sensitive. The wrong care dries and cracks the surface — the right care keeps it soft for years.

Leather Furniture Care: Do's and Don'ts

A leather sofa is an investment that, with the right care, lasts for decades. But unlike fabric, leather is not a "clean and forget" material — it's a natural surface that needs both cleaning and conditioning to avoid drying out and cracking.

What to do

  • Wipe the leather regularly with a dry or slightly damp soft cloth to remove dust and oils.
  • Use a dedicated leather conditioner a few times a year to keep the surface supple.
  • Keep the furniture away from direct sunlight and radiators, which dry out the leather.
  • Remove stains quickly with a soft cloth, without rubbing.

What to avoid

  • Don't use household chemicals, alcohol or cleaners not intended for leather.
  • Avoid excess water — leather doesn't tolerate soaking.
  • Don't use abrasive sponges or brushes that scratch the surface.
  • Don't let stains dry — the longer they sit, the deeper they absorb.

Why conditioning matters

Over time leather loses its natural oils, becomes dry and starts to crack — especially at the fold lines of the seats. Regular conditioning restores elasticity and prevents irreversible damage. It's just as important as cleaning itself.

When you need a professional

If the leather has dulled, dried out, become soiled in the folds, or has persistent stains, professional cleaning and conditioning is the best choice. We use products suited to the leather type that clean gently and restore the surface without damaging the material. This extends the life of your sofa and preserves its appearance.
