How Often Should You Clean Your Sofa
The general rule is once a year, but a household with pets, children or allergies should clean more often.

The sofa is one of the most used items in the home, yet also one of the most forgotten when it comes to cleaning. Unlike bedding, we don't wash the upholstery every week, so dust, sweat, skin oils and allergens build up slowly and unnoticed.
General recommendation
For an average household we recommend a thorough deep clean at least once a year. It removes deeply embedded dirt that a vacuum can't reach and extends the life of the fabric. Regular care also prevents the build-up of odours and stains.
When to clean more often
- Pets — hair, oils and odour build up quickly; every 6 months is recommended.
- Young children — stains and spills are frequent; clean twice a year.
- Allergies and asthma — dust mites and allergens accumulate in the filling; every 4–6 months is recommended.
- Heavy use — if the sofa is used for eating and sleeping, more frequent cleaning is needed.
What you can do in between
Regular vacuuming with a soft attachment once a week removes surface dirt and slows its penetration deeper. Stains should be removed immediately, not left to wait. Rotate and plump the cushions for even wear. These simple habits extend the time between deep cleans.
Why regularity pays off
Regular care is cheaper than rescuing the sofa later. When dirt and odour have built up over years, the result is harder to achieve and the fabric may already be damaged. An annual clean keeps the sofa hygienic, fresh and long-lasting.
